Greener Pastures

Following yesterday's paltry results and lack of sign a location change was in order. New ground calling from not to afar was a welcome option. As luck would have it the promising location rolled overnight presenting green water and zero sign. Not one to vacillate the decision to haul ass back to the north was made easy with reports of good conditions and plenty of sign from our colleagues on scene. A short ride later we were fast to the bottom back in the game. Completely different from yesterday school fish showed everywhere and the bank came alive. Big dudes however were still very hard to come by. They warily circled the boat while we worked every angle from late morning through dark to entice a bite or two when they passed under the hull and/or occasionally arose to slurp a bait. When they did their dimensions were easily verified - big, jumbos. All told, amongst mucho action on school fish that harassed us nigh the entire time, we managed to fool two of those big bastards into grabbing a bait carrying a hook. And those two managed to get away. Damn. Satisfied with the effort we closed the fishing portion on a strong note again pleased to be on the field in the big game. A quick ride overnight will place us at the tip of Southern Baja where anglers will disembark in favor of the express route up the line. Today's image features long range veteran, Royal Star angler Mike Kellogg with his first yellowfin over the coveted 200 pound mark. At 236 this beauty is no small symbol of triumph. Congratulations to Mike from myself and the boys. This fish was well deserved, hard earned.
