Ballslappers

A dreadfully long morning without a single stop or sighting of anything certainly had the bridge stress level rising. But the weather was nice; ideal in fact for an offshore prospecting mission. So we prospected, and prospected. One early afternoon mediocre kelp produced a fair shot at our quarry. Beautiful grade, 12-22# "flats" (Dorado) were the desired size with the right disposition. Confident that our path was sound indeed, not thirty minutes later, the Mother Lode was found. One enormous kelp lead to outstanding fishing on "ballslappers" until we were completely sated. Between epic catching and fish watching a better time as an offshore angler in this arena is not to be found. A fantastic time was had by all. Pure engaging fun. Photo today features first time Royal Star angler Matt Kiesse a few days prior with a dandy wahoo coming over the rail.
