Fine start

Though perhaps a little earlier than anticipated we got into the big fish game early with a bonus hit on jumbo bluefin mid morning. Glorious, flat calm seas revealed bluefin spread over a vast area in small spots and deep patrols. Ultimately one group reacted to our offerings in a breathtaking display. Flying from the water, exploding on baits the scene was magnified by the sheet glass ocean surface. Every detail was crisp and epically violent well preparing all for what was to come. 240, 235, 225, and a 190 were the spoils while a couple others forced their release. Not a bad round one by any standard they sank to the depths after that leaving us hanging in the search for more. Undeterred we took the "W" continuing the trek south well satisfied with our starting fortune. But the day was not over. Right at sundown a bonus hit for a dozen nice wahoo closed the day on a lofty note. Tomorrow will find us farther south plying the trophy yellowfin zones. Today's images feature Royal Star friends Garry "Big Fish" Sato and Mike Kellogg with their first trophy's of the trip!
